20 years in technology,10 years with snomed ct.

Joined IHTSDO in 2013, initially to bring terminology management operations in-house. This evolved into providing technology strategy and leadership to develop the end-to-end terminology management platform, and finally to leading the future direction of SNOMED itself. Was introduced to SNOMED at the College of American Pathologists between 2005 and 2012, working with the informatics team and a 3rd party SNOMED-expert vendor, establishing formal release, quality and distribution management infrastructure and processes.

  • Delivered 22 consecutive releases of the SNOMED CT International Edition in 10 years, working hands-on and as manager of software engineering teams.

  • Innovated in collaboration with SNOMED experts and technology professionals, to develop requirements and deliver platforms to build SNOMED CT products and validate their ontological, clinical and technical integrity.

  • Innovated to deliver requirements and algorithms to provide real-time information to terminologists during the authoring process. Coined the term ‘authoring decision support’.

  • In collaboration with clinical specialists, informatics teams, healthcare delivery agencies, and health IT standards and technology experts, worked to continuously improve SNOMED CT and derived products, contributing to content projects including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and alignment projects e.g. SNOMED/LOINC and SNOMED/ICD-11.

  • Worked with software vendors and national public health agencies to obtain usability requirements to enable SNOMED to be adopted more easily, which informed the strategic direction for SNOMED through 2020.
